Climate

San Miguel de Allende is found in the semi-desert plane of central Mexico, part of the region known as El Bajío. Its location earns it the distinction among many travel authors as "the perennial spring climate", which is to say that the mornings are fresh and the days, little by little, turn into afternoons full of sun, which gradually cool to sometimes chilly nights. During the warmest months from April to August average temperatures experience highs of 82°F (28°C) and lows of 55°F (13°C), while from December to January they average highs of 70°F (21°C) and lows of 41°F (5°C).

The changing global climate has provoked irregular and unpredictable rains throughout the entire year, where a clear and sunny day can in a few hours turn rainy, or vice-versa. For this reason, it is always recommended to be prepared for temperature changes and inclement weather.

If you visit during the rainy season (June until mid-October), comfortable walking shoes are highly recommended to navigate through the cobblestone streets and adoquín sidewalks. The rainy season generally brings rainfall about 3 or 4 times per week, with a heavy rainfall coming in around once every 10 days or so. However, don't let the rainy season discourage you, this is when San Miguel de Allende is at its most beautiful. By August, the desert has transformed itself, and where there were only cactus and thorn bushes in April, a carpet of lush grass and wildflowers are growing.
