We greatly appreciate your participation which again exceeded our expectations by far. Congratulations and thank you so much! Currently, our judges are reviewing the submissions; a complete list of selected films will be published in the program section of this website by early July. In the meantime, please check our website for other calls and news.

The call for entries for Expresión en Corto 2011 will be launched in january. in the meantime, we are publishing our 2010 rules& regulations below for your reference:

EXPRESIÓN EN CORTO INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL

2010 CALL FOR ENTRIES

1.-The primary objective of the EXPRESIÓN EN CORTO INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL is to provide more opportunities for the exhibition and appreciation of films, rewarding their quality with materials and equipment so as to allow the artists to continue producing film. At the same time, we hope to bring together newcomers alongside the industry's most seasoned professionals, combining forces in a very open, accessible and competitive environment.

2.- THE XIII EDITION OF THE EXPRESIÓN EN CORTO INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL will be celebrated from July 23 rd – August 1st, 2010, in the two host cities of Guanajuato and San Miguel de Allende, Gto., México.

3.- CATEGORIES OF COMPETITION. The following categories have been established: SHORT FILM FICTION – SHORT FILM EXPERIMENTAL – SHORT FILM ANIMATION – SHORT DOCUMENTARY – Shorts filmed in any film, video or digital format with a duration of up to 30 minutes (including credits) and produced after January 1st, 2009 are eligible. FEATURE LENGTH DOCUMENTARY. Documentaries of between 30 and 120 minutes, filmed in any film or digital format, and produced after January 1st, 2009 are eligible. FEATURE LENGTH OPERA PRIMA. Feature length Operas Primas, or first time works by Mexican directors, in either film or digital formats that have not yet acquired distribution in commercial theaters within Mexico and whose production date is after January 1st, 2009 are eligible.

4.- EXHIBITION. The Festival shall determine the order and date of exhibition of each work. Submissions may also be selected to participate in non-competitive programs.

5.- CONDITIONS.
A - Registration: cost is $25 USD per film, payable through WithoutABox.com. Registration is free of cost for Mexican film makers.
B- There is no limit to the amount of short films or documentaries that a filmmaker or producer may register.
C- The maximum duration of short films is 30 minutes, including credits. The maximum duration of feature documentaries and Operas Primas is 120 minutes.
D- Music videos, commercial work and political propaganda are not accepted.
E- In order to be admitted, the materials must be presented in Spanish, English, or with subtitles in either of these two languages, preferably in Spanish.
F- Three (3) copies of each film in DVD-NTSC format are required. These copies shall not be returned.
G- Please also send an “Electronic Press Kit” on CD including the following information:

  • Still photo from the film (jpg or tif in Color at 300 dpi)
  • Synopsis of the film (in Spanish and English)
  • Brief Biography of the Director (in Spanish and English)
  • Director's Photograph (jpg or tif in Color at 300 dpi)
  • Film Credits


H- The deadline for registration and delivery of materials is May 1st, 2010.
I- All shipping expenses of participating works, from their place of origin to the address of this organization, shall be paid exclusively by the participant. The Festival will not be responsible for the cost of receiving any additional materials (cassettes, posters, photos, etc.).
J- Once a film has been submitted for participation it cannot be withdrawn.
K- The Festival does not pay screening fees.
L- Selected films may potentially form part of the festival's travelling showcase, participating around the world.

6.- SELECTION AND JURY. The selection of the films will be the responsibility of the Festival Organization by means of an International Jury, made up of film industry professionals, whose names shall be announced shortly before the Festival. The jury's decision is final and cannot be appealed.

7.- AWARDS. The Expresión en Corto International Film Festival shall give each of the participants selected for competition during the festival a diploma. The winners shall receive either cash prizes or materials granted by our sponsors (film, developing services, transfer services, equipment rental for additional filming) and trophies.
